This is an unusual small sculpture that was inspired by an ancient Mediterranean cremation vessel whose lid was shaped like a roof and had a drawer for holding the ashes. This one also incorporates forms from Japanese temples and Pacific Island longhouses.

The figures upon the ridgepole can be interpreted in more than one way.  They can be seen as crescent moons, and they also suggest the horns of the supernatural bull that was a protective deity in the ancient Mediterranean.

The House of Moons is made of red earthenware clay and has the feeling of a very old artifact. You can use it to hold a small quantity of cremains or a beloved memento such as jewelry or a watch.   The volume of the drawer is about 5 or 6 tablespoons. To prevent possible spilling, you can place the ashes in a small cloth or plastic bag inside the drawer.
