Elaborate forms of foliage, fruit and blossoms wrap themselves intricately around this urn. These patterns are from an old Persian painting, and are symbols of the abundance of nature.
The urn is part of the saltfire series, made from white stoneware and carefully carved into intricate patterns reminiscent of carved ivory. Because salt firing is highly variable, colors are paler or deeper in different parts of the urn.
To calculate whether an urn is large enough, you should figure about 1 cubic inch per pound of living body weight. This urn holds 144 cubic inches. If ashes are partially scattered or divided, the urn would also be sufficient for a larger person’s cremains.
