Graceful weeping willow branches flow over the gentle curves of this urn. In Celtic mythology, the willow, because it grows close to water, was associated with the moon and tides. It symbolized dreams, visions, and magic.
This willow urn is part of the saltfire series, made from white stoneware and carefullly carved into intricate patterns reminiscent of carved ivory. Because salt firing is highly variable, colors are paler or deeper in different parts of the urn.
To calculate whether an urn is large enough, you should figure about 1 cubic inch per pound of living body weight. This urn holds 158 cubic inches. If ashes are partially scattered, or divided amongst loved ones, the urn could accommodate the cremains of a larger individual.
